Putāruru Pająki Club
Join Our Lovely Community Of Crafters!
Do you love arts, crafts, and good yarns? Great! That’s exactly what our community of crafters is all about. We enjoy making pająki hanging mobiles while embracing the art of gathering and creating together. We love connecting with others in meaningful ways and expressing our creativity—because it feels good!
Pająki (pronounced pah-yonk-ee) are stunning, delicate hanging mobiles made from paper and rye straw. This beautiful folk art originates from Poland.
Everything you need to know:
Your community organiser:
Kia ora, I’m Ninu, your community organiser. I’m a Mexican-born artist living in Putāruru, Aotearoa New Zealand.
I started making pająki in 2021 after taking an online workshop with Karolina Merska, and I instantly fell in love with this craft. I started this club because making pająki on your own is delightful, but making them with others is simply magical—and I want people to experience that kind of magic.
How does it work?
Our club welcomes everyone, regardless of skill level. We have two types of meet-ups:
✨ Structured Workshops – These sessions teach the foundations of this beautiful craft. They have a cost, which includes all the materials you need. Ideal for those who want guidance and support on their pająki-making journey.
✨ DIY Meet-ups – These are casual sessions where we simply get together to make pająki. They’re not classes—just a self-directed space for people to craft, share tips, and inspire each other. These sessions are free, but we ask for a koha to help cover the venue costs. Ideal for those who have completed previous pająki workshops, crafters who enjoy learning by observing or first-timers wanting to connect with other crafters and learn about this beautiful art.
We normally meet at St Paul’s Parish, 64 Kensington Street, Putāruru but now and then we get adventurous and we take our craft to the outdoors. We’re currently working out when our DIY meet-ups will be so if you’re interested, feel free to fill out the form below to be kept in the loop of things.
Whether you're a seasoned crafter or a total beginner, you'll find joy in crafting these beautiful mobiles. Come along, get creative, and connect with other lovely humans.
✨ Join us and let’s make something beautiful together! ✨
